As part of a yearly academic and policy engagement visit coordinated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Ghana, WASCAL welcomed a distinguished delegation of German university leaders to its headquarters to explore strategic collaboration opportunities in climate science, governance, and sustainable development.

The visit brought together a consortium of institutions with shared interests in advancing research, innovation, and policy engagement in Africa. Discussions focused on building stronger academic partnerships, enhancing research mobility, and co-developing solutions to climate and sustainability challenges across West Africa and beyond.

The high-level delegation included Oliver Frör (RPTU University of Kaiserslautern-Landau), Thomas Trännapp (RWTH Aachen University), Thomas Walther (Technical University of Darmstadt), Gesine Grande (BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg), Angela Ittel-Polatschek (Technical University of Braunschweig), Hadjara Gouba (representative from the German Embassy in Ghana), and Felix Barnes from the DAAD Regional Office in Accra.

During the engagement, the WASCAL Executive Director, Prof. Emmanuel Wedsongré Ramdé, showcased WASCAL’s cutting-edge research, capacity-building programmes, and regional impact in climate change adaptation and resilience. Both sides explored avenues for joint research initiatives, academic exchange programmes, and innovation-driven partnerships.

This visit marks another important step in deepening collaboration between African and German institutions, reinforcing WASCAL’s role as a hub for scientific excellence and international cooperation in climate action.
