WASCAL to offer small research grants of about 5,000 euros to 10 groups of alumni to conduct research in Climate Change thematic areas under the BLOC programme.

One of WASCAL’s services, Building Local Capacity for Policy Oriented Research in Climate Change Adaption and Mitigation in West Africa (BLOC) offers grants to researchers within the climate change space. So far it has offered small research grants of about 5,000 euros to 10 groups of alumni to conduct research in Climate Change thematic areas under the BLOC programme.

The objectives of the BLOC are to build local capacity for policy-oriented research on Climate change mitigation and adaptation, generate data and research results for use by policy makers to promote links between Climate research and policy and encourage retention of high-quality Climate Scientists in West Africa.

This will also help to reduce migration of young scientists from West Africa to the developed world. The research proposal to be funded must focus on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation issues in West Africa in any of the thematic areas of Biodiversity, agriculture, adapted land use, climate systems, education, health, human security, economics and energy. Priority is given to team led by young researchers pursuing a career in government ministries, research and/or teaching at a public institution in West Africa. Teamwork and cross-country research proposals are encouraged.
