The Shaping Futures: African-European Network on Development and Sustainability Academy (Shaping Futures Academy), formerly known as the BMZ African-German Leadership Academy (African Academy) is an innovative training and dialogue programme that strengthens joint knowledge creation and peer learning. One of the programme’s objectives is to bolster participants’ competences to achieve sustainability principles as stipulated in the Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The target participants are early to mid-career professionals from participating African, (Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Togo, and Zambia) and European (EU, EEA, and UK) countries. The programme takes place in a block format from May to November 2025, with knowledge application intervals in July and August, and consists of:a full-time in-person module in Bonn with study trips to Berlin and Brussels in June-July 2025;a full-time in-person module in Accra, Ghana, co-hosted by Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), in October 2025;three part-time online modules in May, September, and November 2025. |
Taking part in the Shaping Futures Academy opens the door for participants and their institutions to join a network of African, European and German actors from all sectors of society. Representatives of government institutions, think tanks and research institutions, civil society, and private sectors come together to engage in the collaborative creation of new knowledge, develop a mutual understanding of cooperation and establish trustful sustainable partnerships. |
