Baku, Azerbaijan-
As a UNFCCC-admitted observer and leader in regional climate resilience in West Africa, WASCAL aims to strengthen existing partnerships, forge new ones, and showcase its impactful work in capacity building, research, and innovation as it announces its participation in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP 29) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), taking place from 11th to 23rd November, 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
At COP 29, WASCAL will engage with hundreds of global stakeholders, policymakers, and experts at its Climate Café in West Africa. This platform will showcase the institution’s research success stories, including the WASCAL Research Action Plan (WRAP 2.0).
Furthermore, through its Independent Global Stocktake (IGST) – West Africa project, WASCAL will convene a conversation on Regional Action on the First Global Stocktake: Contributions of IGSTs in West Africa. This session will facilitate dialogue among regional stakeholders, policymakers, and global experts on the importance of regional action in achieving global climate goals.
“COP 29 presents a unique opportunity for WASCAL to demonstrate its leadership in climate resilience in West Africa and forge strategic partnerships,” said Prof. Emmanuel Wendsongré Ramdé, Executive Director of WASCAL.
“We know that through this period we join both global state and non-state actors in intensifying meaningful conversations on climate change, share our rich regional expertise, and showcase our strong impact on the sub-region”. He concluded.
WASCAL’s participation in COP 29 will yield enhanced global visibility and recognition, strengthened partnerships with international organizations and stakeholders, access to cutting-edge climate research and innovation, opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing, and increased capacity building and training opportunities for West African scientists.
