WASCAL has opened calls for application for interested West Africans who look forward to studying Climate Change programmes at the post-graduate levels.  interested pursuing in combatting Climate Change and improving livelihoods.

With funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), WASCAL will be offering full scholarship to 154 students from eleven West African countries to pursue ten (10) Doctoral Research Programmes and two (2) Master’s Research Programmes in Climate Change thematic areas. The countries are Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, The Gambia, and Togo.

The two master’s research programmes are Climate Change and Informatics and Climate Change and Marine Sciences. The ten doctoral research programmes are Climate Change in relation to Economics, Land Use, Agriculture, Biodiversity, Human Habitat, Education, Energy, Disaster Risk Management, Water Resources and West African Climate Systems,

In a statement issued by the Director of Capacity Building Programmes of WASCAL at its Headquarters in Accra, Prof.  Daouda Kone emphasized that WASCAL was committed to providing high quality education to West African future policy makers.

WASCAL is delighted to announce that we are ready once again to provide West African students with world class postgraduate tuition. Our scholarship programmes are unique and of international standards. That is why we are affiliated to all the Lead universities in the West African region. So we urge West African students to take this rare opportunity at their disposal, as we work together with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), to provide hundred percent scholarship to combat the impacts of Climate Change and to improve livelihoods.

The scholarship package, which commenced in 2012 includes full funding, roundtrip tickets and accommodation, allowances, and travel to selected West African countries as well as to Germany.

So far 300 PhD and master’s graduates from eleven West African countries have already benefited from these programmes from 2014 to today. These scholars have gone ahead to occupy very pivotal positions in academia, international organizations, governmental institutions and in non-governmental organizations.
