WASCAL TO HOST INAUGURAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND JUST ENERGY TRANSITION (I3C-JET) 2025 IN ABUJA

4th September 2025

The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) is pleased to announce its inaugural International Conference on Climate Change and Just Energy Transition (I3C-JET), scheduled for 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria. This groundbreaking event will bring together a diverse group of researchers, policymakers, innovators, community leaders, and development partners to accelerate Africa’s response to the global climate crisis.

The conference is designed to be a catalyst for action, moving beyond dialogue to deliver tangible solutions. By convening experts from various fields across Africa, WASCAL aims to identify critical knowledge and technology gaps through collaborative research and inclusive dialogue, setting a clear direction for future climate research across the African continent. The event will also showcase successful policy and funding models that have proven effective in enabling impactful climate initiatives.

Prof. Emmanuel Ramde, Executive Director of WASCAL, spoke about the conference.

“At the heart of this conference is a commitment to inclusivity. This flagship conference will promote approaches that empower women, youth, and marginalised groups, ensuring the energy transition is truly just. It is a conference that will contribute immensely to shaping the journey towards a climate-resilient Africa, and we are already excited about this”. He spoke.

Participants will explore ways to integrate scientific knowledge with valuable indigenous practices to develop practical solutions for key sectors vital to African communities, including agriculture, water resource management, renewable energy, and disaster preparedness.

By fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, the I3C-JET conference will drive meaningful changes and support a sustainable future for the region. The conference will focus on strengthening community engagement, supporting local innovation, and advancing evidence-based policy recommendations, ultimately forging a unified path toward a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable West Africa.

The conference is expected to attract government officials, policy makers, researchers, scientists, corporate leaders and the academic world from over 20 countries.
