WASCAL Bioenergy laboratory in Togo has the best equipment to combat climate change and improve livelihoods. At the just-ended international trade fair referred to as “the Salon Fest’Immo and SolarDays in Togo”, organised by the Synergy of Renewable Energy Actors (SAER), WASCAL has been awarded the Prize for Best Technological Innovation in recognition of its outstanding demonstration of excellence, innovation, and professionalism.
Presented by the Organising Committee of Salon Fest’Immo and SolarDays together with members of the Special Jury, the Certificate of Distinction followed a rigorous assessment of participating exhibitors based on the quality of reception, stand arrangement, team presentation, and clarity of demonstrations.
WASCAL’s recognition was driven by its innovative contribution to clean cooking technologies through showcasing the Apeli Stove, a sustainable cooking solution designed to replace traditional open fires and inefficient stoves. Developed with the support of DBFZ Biomass Laboratories, the Apeli Stove significantly reduces harmful indoor air pollution, lowers carbon emissions, and decreases fuel consumption. The technology continues to be tested in rural communities in Togo as part of efforts to advance sustainable and climate-smart household energy solutions.
WASCAL used the opportunity to host a high-level side event, a symposium on the topic “Impacts of Climate Change, Obstacles to Sustainable Solutions and Synergies of Action for a Resilient Energy Transition in Togo.”
The symposium brought together key national institutions, private sector actors, development partners, and renewable energy stakeholders to deliberate on climate resilience, sustainable energy solutions, and pathways to strengthening collaboration for coordinated climate action. Discussions focused on identifying institutional, financial, technical, and social barriers to climate solution implementation while promoting renewable energy as a strategic lever for resilience.
Through its active engagement at “SolarDays”, WASCAL reaffirmed its commitment to transforming climate science into practical solutions that support resilient communities, sustainable energy access, and climate action across West Africa and beyond.
