DR. BELKO ABDOUL-AZIZ DIALLO
Senior ScientistDr. Belko Abdoul-Aziz Diallo is a Computer Science Engineer and a Geomatics Scientist. He is a practitioner and researcher in Data Management and Data Science at WASCAL. He holds a PhD in Geomatics, Geospatial, and Geo-Informatics sciences and technologies.
Dr. Diallo joined WASCAL in May 2016 as a Senior Data Manager and Head of IT. In 2020, he was appointed Data Management Scientist and Head of the Data Management Department (DMD). In this role, he has significantly enhanced Data, Science, and Technology units, including climate observation systems, GIS and Remote Sensing, and High-Performance Computing. He has also expanded the department to incorporate technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and the establishment of an AIoT FabLab. This FabLab aims to develop affordable, high-quality smart devices for climate observation, smart agriculture, health, renewable energy, and climate change adaptation solutions.
The Data Management Department, under his leadership, comprises of a dozen staff members and six units, including Observation Networks, GIS and Remote Sensing Lab, IT and High-Performance Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, and Data Governance and Management. He is the lead administrator of the WASCAL Open Data Infrastructure (WADI).
He serves on the scientific board of WASCAL Graduate School on Informatics for Climate Change in Ouagadougou and is an associate lecturer. He is a trained drone pilot and a Google-trained Machine Learning Engineer.
He speaks and writes French, English, and basic Arabic.
