KICK OFF MEETING BETWEEN WASCAL AND THE GERMAN UNIVERSITY OF MITTWEIDA FOR A COOPERATION ON THE FIELD OF CLIMATE CHANGE AFRICA HELD

 A kick-off meeting between the University of Applied Sciences at Mittweida, Germany and   WASCAL   to commence a cooperation has been held.

The delegation from the University of Applied Sciences at Mittweida was led by Prof. Ramona Kusche,  WASCAL was led by the Executive Director, Dr. Moumini Savadogo,  Dr. Gabin Ananou from the Project Management Agency of the German Aerospace Centre, DLR has facilitated and chaired the meeting, which  deliberated on all possible fields of collaboration and agreed on a roadmap to be fed at a later stage in a Memorandum of Understanding. So shall be the basis for a very strong relationship in the fight against the impacts of Climate Change through joint research activities, capacity building programmes and joint platform of knowledge exchange.

The very promising collaboration between the two institutions will also seek to   promote strategic networking with political, scientific, corporate and academic stakeholders, while raising awareness on Climate Change at the grassroots. The groundbreaking events are expected to commence in 2022.

WACAL is a West African International large-scale research-focused and capacity building Climate Service Centre designed to help tackle the climate change challenge by enhancing the resilience of human and environmental systems to climate change and increased variability. This is made possible through the strengthening of the research infrastructure and capacity in West Africa related to climate change and by pooling the expertise of eleven West African countries.

The Mittweida University of Applied Sciences offers its almost 7,000 students more than 50-degree programmes of international standard. Students can complete their Bachelor, Master or Diploma degrees at the 5 faculties.

The two partners have mandated a joint commission to design the contents of the collaboration and to be implemented for the best of junior scientists on both sides.
