PROFESSOR DAOUDA KONE IS NEW DIRECTOR OF CAPACITY BUILDING AT WASCAL

WASCAL has appointed Professor Daouda Kone as the new Director of the Capacity Building Department, effective 6th January 2020.

As the head of the Capacity Building Department, he will provide scientific and academic leadership and management of the different Capacity Building Programmes and, in collaboration with the Director of Research, develop work plans for the Capacity Building Department to fulfill the objectives of WASCAL. He will also be managing and coordinating the Capacity Building Programmes of WASCAL from the Headquarters by developing strategies to ensure effective achievement of the organization’s vision and scientific objectives.

Professor Kone will also be planning and overseeing the capacity needs assessments of the Graduate Schools and give direction for improvement as well as building a strong network among the lead universities in the region and with WASCAL partners in overseas.

Until his appointment, he served as the Director of Graduate Studies Programme (GSP) of WASCAL Climate Change and Biodiversity since October 2012. He has also been a Full Professor in Plant Physiology at the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Cocody- Abidjan.

He played the leading role in the establishment of the GSP in Côte d’Ivoire as Centre of Excellence of World Bank in Climate Change Biodiversity and Sustainable Agriculture in 2015. He also led the establishment of two regional Master programmes linked to the GRP WASCAL for Capacity Building in Climate Change in West Africa; 17 African nationalities are hosted in this programme.

The new Cpacity Building Director also worked on ensuring the international accreditation of WASCAL PhD curricula and 3 other by High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HECERES). He acted as the lead connection of Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Côte d’Ivoire Universities to the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture, (RUFORUM).

Prof Kone brings to WASCAL in-depth experience of more than 21 years as a lecturer at different stages, managing local, national, regional and international projects.

Professor Kone obtained his Master in Plant Physiology degree in 1991 and went on to pursue a first Doctoral Degree in  Agro-physiology and Plant Pathology in 1998. He further went on to obtain a second Doctoral Degree in 2008 also in the same field from the University of Cocody-Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire.

LE PROFESSEUR DAOUDA KONE EST LE NOUVEAU DIRECTEUR DU RENFORCEMENT DES CAPACITÉS À WASCAL

WASCAL a nommé le professeur Daouda Koné en tant que nouveau Directeur du Département de Renforcement des Capacités, à compter du 6 janvier 2020.

En tant que chef du Département de Renforcement des Capacités, il assurera le leadership scientifique et universitaire et la gestion des différents programmes de renforcement des capacités et, en collaboration avec le Directeur de la recherche, élaborera des plans de travail pour le Département du renforcement des capacités afin d’atteindre les objectifs de WASCAL.

Il dirigera et coordonnera également les programmes de renforcement des capacités de WASCAL depuis le siège en élaborant des stratégies pour assurer la réalisation effective de la vision et des objectifs scientifiques de l’organisation.

Le professeur Koné planifiera et supervisera également les évaluations des besoins en capacités des écoles supérieures de formation Doctorale et de Master et donnera des orientations pour l’amélioration ainsi que la construction d’un réseau solide entre les principales universités de la région et avec les partenaires de WASCAL à l’étranger.

Jusqu’à sa nomination, il était Directeur du programme d’études supérieures (GSP) de WASCAL Changement climatique et biodiversité depuis octobre 2012. Il a également été Professeur en Agro-physiologie et Phytopathologie au Laboratoire de Physiologie Végétale de l’Unité de formation et de de Recherche (UFR) Biosciences de l’Université de Félix Houphouët-Boigny située à Cocody-Abidjan.

Il a joué un rôle de premier plan dans la mise en place du GSP en Côte d’Ivoire en tant que Centre d’excellence de la Banque mondiale sur la biodiversité et l’agriculture durable en matière de changement climatique en 2015. Il a également dirigé la mise en place de deux programmes de master régionaux liés au GRP WASCAL pour le renforcement des capacités en matière de changement climatique en Afrique de l’Ouest avec 17 nationalités africaines hébergées dans ce programme.

Le nouveau Directeur du Département de Renforcement des Capacités a également travaillé à assurer l’accréditation internationale des programmes de Doctorat WASCAL et 3 autres par le Haut Conseil pour l’Évaluation de la Recherche et de l’Enseignement Supérieur (HECERES). Il a assuré la liaison principale de l’Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny et des Universités de la Côte d’Ivoire avec le Forum Régional des Universités pour le Renforcement des Capacités en Agriculture (RUFORUM).

Le professeur Koné apporte à WASCAL une expérience approfondie de plus de 21 ans en tant que personne ressource à différentes étapes, gérant des projets locaux, nationaux, régionaux et internationaux.

Le professeur Koné a obtenu son DEA en Physiologie végétale en 1991 et a poursuivi en 1998 son Doctorat de 3e Cycle en Agro-Physiologie et Phytopathologie. Il a ensuite obtenu son Doctorat d’Etat en 2008 également dans le même domaine à l’Université de Cocody-Abidjan en Côte d’Ivoire.
