The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) Germany, supports a consortium established by two international initiatives in Africa: The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) and the Pan African University-Institute of Water and Energy Sciences including Climate Change (PAUWES) and an international partner, the Centre of International Research of the University of Bonn(ZEF). These partners involved in capacity building and research in the area of Water, Energy and Climate Change in Africa, have important similarities on the one hand and complementary activities and structures on the other. The overall goal of the project is aimed at strengthening both African institutions and increasing the effectiveness of support from the German counterpart.
As part of the WASCAL-PAUWES-ZEF cooperation, there was a mid-term cooperation meeting from 1st to 4th October 2019 at the University of Abdou Moumouni in Niamey, Niger. The meeting was attended by representatives of WASCAL supporting institutions (Benin, Ghana, Niger and Ouagadougou), PAUWES (Algeria) and ZEF(Bonn) as well as representative of a new partner institution (2iE) from Burkina Faso. The meeting was to review the status of the objectives as compared to the activities of the project organized for the year 2019 and addressed challenges associated with the project. Additionally, the meeting finalized the remaining activities of the project for the year 2020 as compared to the project objectives along with the given timeline of the project.
