Dr. Francis Boateng Agyenim
2nd Vice-Chairperson - GhanaDr. Francis Boateng Agyenim is the 2nd Vice Chair and the representative of Ghana on the WASCAL Governing Board. He holds a PhD in Solar Energy Engineering (UK), a master’s degree in Energy Conversion and Management (Germany), and a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering (Ghana).
Currently, Dr. Agyenim is the Director of the CSIR-Institute of Industrial Research (CSIR-IIR) in Ghana. He oversees the daily administration of Ghana’s leading industrial research and development institute, which aims to drive national development and global competitiveness through scientific and technological research.
Previously, Dr. Agyenim served as the Dean of the Graduate School at Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) and held academic positions at Cardiff, Ulster, and Nottingham Universities in the UK. He has consulted on sustainable energy projects and supervised the installation of numerous solar PV systems in Ghana and Germany. Over the past five years, he has trained more than 2,600 professional electrical engineers/electricians in solar system installation and maintenance.
Dr. Agyenim serves on several university and management boards, including the University for Development Studies (UDS) Council, Ghana Nuts Management Board, National Biosafety Authority Management Board, Nursing and Midwifery Council Management Board, and CSIR Boards (Food Research Institute and Institute of Industrial Research).
He has developed and implemented the Zero Waste Disposal (ZeWaD) concept and the Industrial Innovation Hub (i2-Hub). His published works include peer-reviewed articles on renewable and alternative energies and guidelines for integrating solar-powered absorption cooling systems into buildings.
As Director of CSIR-IIR, he has significantly increased the institute’s annual internally generated fund (IGF). Dr. Agyenim has also led numerous research and development projects, contributing to Ghana’s climate targets and renewable energy initiatives.
